Biography

Edward is the Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is an internationally recognised expert in the application of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) with many years of experience as an engineer and an experienced academic and researcher working nationally and internationally. Prior to joining PolyU, Edward was the inaugural Director of the Smart Transport Research Centre and Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Edward holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours and a PhD from Monash University.

Research Interests

– Traffic speed prediction for non-recurring congestion
– Cooperative freeway merging for CAV and mixed traffic
– Reinforcement Learning in traffic signal control
– Surrogate model for traffic signal optimisation
– Cooperative ITS considering packet loss
– Capacity of signal-free intersections for mixed traffic
– Transport modelling, traffic management and optimisation

Full-time Research Assistant position is available to develop and implement traffic simulation models using tools like SUMO and Aimsunwork. Responsibilities include developing and running traffic simulation models, conducting data analysis, and collaborating on traffic control strategies.
